When a tooth has been extensively restored with fillings, the remaining tooth or filling may be overly susceptible to repeated fractures. To protect the remaining tooth structure, a cast metal or porcelain crown can be constructed to protect the remaining tooth and filling. Dental implants are a technique of replacing the loss of one or more teeth. It involves the placement of a Titanium screw into the jawbone to replace the lost root. A crown can then be screwed into this after an appropriate time for healing when the implant has been fully enclosed by bone.
